Shalanda Byers
In May 2011, Coach Shalanda Byers took over as Anderson High School's Head Volleyball Coach. For the last eighteen years, Coach Byers has coached in several different volleyball settings. She started her coaching career at Bowie High School and spent 5 years there as the JV Coach and Varsity Assistant Coach under Jason Landers. She then coached for three years as the Head Coach at McCallum High School, where in 2003, the Lady Knights were undefeated District 26-4A Champions before moving on to Bi-District and Area Champions. In each of her four years of high school, Coach Byers was named to the All-Conference volleyball team all 4 yrs. She graduated from Kankakee Community College with a degree in Liberal Studies, but not before garnering All-American honors in volleyball in 1993. After transferring to Southwest Texas State University, Coach Byers spent her time studying Exercise and Sports Science and playing volleyball. In May 2010, Coach Byers graduated with her BA in Special Education from Huston-Tillotson University. As a coach, it is her booming voice and big heart that knock folks over at Austin Juniors Volleyball Club where she has coached for the past nineteen years and has taken 10 teams to the Junior Olympics. Coach Byers expects the best from every one of her players because that is what she gives. Her biggest treasures in life might be spotted occasionally and they are her son, Jeremiah, and daughter, Geralynn.
