Ted Wade
Ted Wade began his volleyball career as a middle blocker at the University of North Texas Men's Club team before transferring to play at the University of Texas at Austin. He first started working at AJV part time during college, coaching 16s and 18s and doing various abusive jobs for the club. After graduating from UT with at degree in History in 1993, Ted became the first full time employee at Austin Jr Volleyball in charge of everything. Working out of Glen Lietzke's apartment for 4 years, the club expanded from 16 teams to 34 teams and out grew the gym space of St. Austin's Middle School and St. Edwards Old gym. As the staff expanded, Ted's responsibilities were better focused for his skill set including Tryouts, Tournament Scheduling, Budgeting, Camps, Clinics and equipment. During this time he coached UT Volleyball Camps, St. Austin's 7th grade A and B teams, AJV 16s and 18s, Volunteer Assistant at UT and USA High Performance Programs. Coaching mostly in the 16's but also 15s, 17s and 18s, his adidas teams qualified for the Open division of Jr Nationals every year except one from 1997 to 2022, finishing in the Gold Bracket numerous times including three 5th place, two 3rd place and one 2nd place in the Open division. He is also involved with volleyball at the National Level serving as an assistant coach for the Youth, Junior and Senior National teams since 2003. He has been on the bench for 3 Youth and Jr World Championships in China, Poland and Thailand and 2 NORCECA Championships in Puerto Rico and Mexico. Ted assisted the planning and development of both AJV Central, AJV Cedar Park and the AJV Sand Complex buildings before take a Division 1 assistant coach position in 2008. He coached at the University of Virginia (with 3 former AJV athletes) and West Virginia University for 5 years before returning to Austin in 2013 to serve as the Technical Coordinator of AJV. Ted is married to Catherine and has two children, Cameron and Ethan.
